Product overview
Standard activated carbon carries residual mineral content from its feedstock — iron, calcium, silica — that leaches into whatever it contacts. In most applications this is irrelevant. In pharmaceutical purification, injectable process streams and catalyst work, it is disqualifying.
Acid washing removes those extractables. The result brings ash below 1% and extractable iron to trace levels, while preserving the adsorptive structure that makes coconut shell carbon useful in the first place.
This is the grade New York pharmaceutical manufacturers specify for API purification and process decolourising, where a carbon that leaches metals into the stream defeats the purpose of using it. Supplied with a full documentation pack including extractables data.

Questions about Acid-Washed Activated Carbon (Low Ash)
When is acid-washed carbon necessary?
Whenever leachable minerals would contaminate the process stream — pharmaceutical API purification, injectable manufacturing, catalyst work and high-purity chemical processing. In food, supplement and general water treatment applications, standard grades are normally sufficient and considerably cheaper.
Does acid washing reduce adsorptive capacity?
No. The acid wash removes mineral ash rather than carbon structure, so surface area and iodine number are preserved — in practice often slightly improved, since ash occupying pore volume has been removed.
Can we make this to your specification?
Yes. Mesh size, assay strength, blend ratio, packaging format and label are all specifiable. We are the OEM — if you need this material milled differently, blended with another active, or delivered as a finished encapsulated product under your own brand, that is ordinary work for us rather than an exception.
