Coconut Shell Activated Carbon Powder
Steam-activated coconut shell carbon, iodine number 1000+ mg/g, 200–325 mesh — the standard food-grade powder for capsules, cosmetics and beverage filtration.
Mesoporous hardwood carbon with a high molasses number — the decolourising grade for sugar, glycerine, oils and syrups where large colour bodies must be removed.
Hardwood carbon solves a different problem from coconut shell. Its pore structure is predominantly mesoporous, meaning larger pores that accommodate the big colour-body molecules coconut shell's microporous structure simply cannot admit.
That makes it the standard choice for decolourising sugar syrups, glycerine, edible oils and fermentation broths. The relevant specification is not the iodine number but the molasses number, which measures capacity for exactly these large molecules — a carbon can have a superb iodine number and still perform poorly at decolourising.
Supplied as a fine powder for batch treatment, where the carbon is contacted with the liquid, held, and then filtered out.

Colour bodies are large molecules. Hardwood carbon is predominantly mesoporous, with pores big enough to admit them, whereas coconut shell is microporous and largely excludes them. For decolourising duty hardwood outperforms coconut shell substantially, regardless of iodine number.
It measures a carbon's capacity to adsorb large molecules, using molasses colour as the test substrate. It is the relevant specification for decolourising applications, where iodine number — which reflects small-molecule capacity — can be actively misleading.
Yes. Mesh size, assay strength, blend ratio, packaging format and label are all specifiable. We are the OEM — if you need this material milled differently, blended with another active, or delivered as a finished encapsulated product under your own brand, that is ordinary work for us rather than an exception.
